This is my Jasper. Most of you know that my family rescued him at the tender age of five in 1999. I have way too many pictures and videos of this bird but he is a ham. If you listen closely you can hear him say, “ I know,” when I say, “You’re pretty.” He also says, “Don’t know,” when I asked him how he was doing. He speaks very well as far as his vocabulary is concerned. But there are two things one needs to know. He will either speak in a tone you an understand or rather low as in this video. Also we can’t command him to speak, he does that on his own terms. A bird who knows what he wants and when he wants to do it. LOL I present Jasper.

Big publishing houses versus small publishing houses
In one of my writing groups the coordinator said you should start at the top to submit. I agree. But it is a tough business, writing. Let alone getting it picked up by anyone especially the big five humongous publishing houses.Thankfully there are small presses and medium presses to help out when a manuscript is rejected or not even looked at. But does it take away from your book if you are picked up by a lesser house? That is a debate for people who write. It all depends on your view-point of whether you are okay with a smaller press or if you are willing to get rejected excessively by a big house.
To me traditionally publish is traditionally published regardless of the size of the company. I always when I submit start at the top and work my way down and hope before I reach the bottom someone is willing to take a chance on my submission. Smaller presses to medium presses give you more freedom than the larger one.
I have two full books that are out in print and two more will be coming out this year. I have had the luxury in having a final say in the cover, the edits and overall the structure of the book. I like that. A lot. Writing is a hard occupation, getting your book out there even harder. So why make it even worse by limiting your options for your book? Doesn’t it deserve a chance to shine?

Short stories and poetry
I received lovely news recently. My manuscript of short stories and poetry had been picked up for publication. The contract came in the mail, was signed and sent back out.
WOOHOO!
I am supper thrilled to have my short stories picked up. I love doing short stories. I have amassed quite a number of them. Poetry. This is not something I do often, in fact it was poetry I had written in my early to mid teens and I just tucked them away. Knowing where they were I never placed much stock in them. They all just been sitting in a drawer in my spare bedroom, well until now. She really liked what I submitted and we have started working on getting this project out.
I am so tickled pink and hope the people who decide to buy and give me a chance with the short stories and poetry will enjoy what I have written.
Still floating pretty high right now.
