2014:Writing Resolutions

IMG_0072

It is now 2014 and the start of a new journey. Last year was pretty amazing as I learned and grew as an author. But there is so much more to do and so much more to discover. It’s a marathon not a sprint as the saying goes. Which brings us to the art of making a list of things to improve on. Resolutions are made every year. It varies how long I’m able to maintain them. I have never made one for writing. This year it will be different.

I will try to:

1. Revise Jasper 2

2. Write Jasper 3

3. Edit my NaNo book from 2011, “ A Woman of Color” which is a true story.

4. To cross promote with other authors as we help each other get the word out

5. To write at least 3-4 days a week. It may only be a paragraph but it is one more than I had the day before. I’m realistic. November is bad enough as it is when it comes to NaNoWriMo and that is a wear and tear that I willingly put myself through. But for the other months I will be happy with 3-4 days a week.

That makes five which is probably a few too much. I will be happy if I can accomplish at least three. For if I do so it means I was writing, a hobby turned craft, and a state of mind that I am very happy to be in.

May you all have a great 2014 as it starts to develops in your lives in a way that no one can see coming, until it has passed you by.

Interviews:Social Media

Social-Draft

Now that my book is out it is all about letting people know about it without coming across as, “Come look at me!” and totally alienating any potential fans you might have coming your way. But in a way it is about shouting, “ Come look at me!” Yes promoting oneself is not fun especially for those who are not use to or comfortable with it. However it is necessary if you want to do well.

A great way to get my name out is through the internet through my social medias and author’s platform I been working on for a few years now. Something I tell my author friends all the time. It is needed especially in this day and age. Regardless that my book was picked up by a traditional publisher does not take me off the hook of marketing my book. It still has to be done more then ever now due to the competition that is out there.

Through my links and contacts online I have been invited to have three interviews online. I have potential for a few more. This is gold, pure and free gold. I have a list of questions from the three sites and I’m working my way down. I have to admit the questions being asked are in depth and very detailed. I really like that. It gives me a chance to show Jasper, Amazon Parrot: A Rainforest Adventure to new people and maybe new fans. If not that then perhaps word of mouth. Something that is highly underused in today’ society.

I am excited for these upcoming ventures and hope to answer the questions to the best of my ability. Everyone has to start somewhere, so long they start.

Book Release: September 7th

Well here it is. I been dying to release the cover for my book. I wanted to wait until I had the date in place before doing so. The cover stirs up a bunch of warm feelings inside. The picture of Jasper was sketched from a photo I sent to the illustrator. This is a pose he uses often making me wonder what he is thinking or maybe better yet plotting.

Jasper and I are almost there.

I have come up with a release date for my book, “Jasper, Amazon Parrot: A Rainforest Adventure”. The magical day is September 7th of this year.

Just typing that sentence and reading it out loud makes me all warm inside. I plan on buying every version of the book from ebook, to soft copy to hard copy. I want it all!

This has been a long journey and I’m now seeing the fruits of my labor of time, energy and endless meetings with fellow writers whether that be online or in real life.

I look at my bird Jasper and I tell him all the time, “Jasper you are going to be big, I tell ya big. Everyone will be talking about you.”

What he normally does is bend his head so I can pat him. The reward for giving me the material for the book. So long I give him plenty of shelled almonds he and I are good.

Now if I can only figure out how to get him to sign the book, then that be perfect.
