I'm a traditionally and self published author. I write in the genre of children and YA at the moment but working my way up to adults.
I'm a sports loving, photo taking gal who loves to sing/dance to my own enjoyment. I love to laugh even at myself. I am also owned by 8 birds and 2 hamsters, and yes they know it. :)
I obtained a new client in July. He wanted me to look over his two manuscripts and to tell him what I thought. I asked if he wanted me to check plots, dialogue, loop holes, pace and all that good stuff. He said yes and more. His manuscripts came to 406 pages. At first I was overwhelmed when he handed it over to me. Normally my clients have smaller works. With him being okay with my fee I took him on.
Like most anything, you start at the beginning. I work in increments of an hour at a time. I take a few minutes to walk around and then attack it for another hour. I had asked if it was edited and was told yes to not worry about any of that. After reading the first few chapters I quickly reminded myself how fortunate I am for my editor who is worth her weight in gold for I did see some errors which I noted. Now I don’t edit like a line editor. I let every one of my clients know that. It is not my thing. I have someone for that. But I do the rest of what a book should contain for it to be a good read for others.
The story as I got more into it was one I really enjoyed. I just finished the first novel and will start on the second one any day now. This was a fun read even though it was work and I am excited for the second volume.
Something of this length helped my own writings as I narrow in on things it was missing or things that needed to be expanded on. It help[s me stay in touch on what needs to be included in my own works. This can only be a win win for me.
Today is my 27th wedding anniversary. Wow. When I say it out loud it blows my mind. He is a pretty cool dude who I am still learning about.I met my husband the second semester of my Freshman year in college in Psychology class of all places. He is amazing in a lot of ways and I am blessed and grateful for all he is. It has been a journey. Going to enjoy tomorrow.
Queen of Webinar. I been dubbed that by a few writer friends. I love webinars. The ones I attend are normally free but offer a world of information. Just this past week I viewed one on Scrivener which has been the rage for writers for a few years now. I have heard of it but don’t have the program as of yet but thought it be cool to watch. It was.
There are webinars for just about anything. All one has to do is do a search and viola. I have viewed most of my webinars on topics of writing, marketing, promotion and so forth. Majority of the time if not all they try to sell you something at the end. But you are not required to buy. Just listen. Which is what I do. I watch webinars like I watch documentaries. All the time. My poor family when a topic comes up and I say, “Oh wait I saw that in a documentary and they said …” I am now doing that for webinars.
Free. I mean come on it is free. All that it requires is your time. Heck a good portion of them they record and they send you the link to watch at your own leisure. All you have to do is have registered for it. There is so much to do and consider when you are an artist of any kind, especially an author.
So when someone offers to help with a free video I am all for it.
