My book has been nominated

IMG_0146

Jasper and I have been nominated by an online book club by the name of Noveltunity. This took me by surprise for I have no clue how that came to be. But let me take a moment to go WOOOOHOOOO!

I am going to be realistic and say I probably don’ have a snowball chance in heck. But I am still stoked that the book is up to be voted on. I did wonder to my peeps on Facebook if I could do like actors and actresses when they are announced as 1x or 2x Oscar nominee and so on. The peeps said sure why not. I have to admit I like the sound of that.

The voting ends in August and if nothing else I voted for myself for what it’s worth. My favorite reaction came from my friend Gina who said, “ It’s another feather in your cap Sharon.”

If anyone is interested in voting the link is below.

Short stories and poetry

indexI received lovely news recently. My manuscript of short stories and poetry had been picked up for publication. The contract came in the mail, was signed and sent back out.

WOOHOO!

I am supper thrilled to have my short stories picked up. I love doing short stories. I have amassed quite a number of them. Poetry. This is not something I do often, in fact it was poetry I had written in my early to mid teens and I just tucked them away. Knowing where they were I never placed much stock in them. They all just been sitting in a drawer in my spare bedroom, well until now. She really liked what I submitted and we have started working on getting this project out.

I am so tickled pink and hope the people who decide to buy and give me a chance with the short stories and poetry will enjoy what I have written.

Still floating pretty high right now.

Is it okay to hate a character in a book?

Book4

Is it okay to hate characters in a book you are reading.? Of course it is. You are not going to like every person the author places in the book. Granted the character I am talking about I did enjoy until halfway through the book. After that he kinda of was dead to me. I think it is okay as well at least for me.

I recently read a book that I need to do a review on. I was going along, loving the book. In fact read it in two days. It would have been one day if life didn’t get in the way. I told my hubby about it throughout, “You want to read this book when I am done? It’s about…” I went on and on and on and it piqued his interest.

Finally finishing the book I went to the fridge to get something to drink. I muttered to myself, “I hate that character. How is that even plausible? So much for that five-star. ” Hubby heard me. “I thought you liked it?” And I did. But as the book went on the character just did things where I wanted to talk to the author and go, “Really?”

It has been a few days since I finished the book and I am thinking clearer. The plot worked well for me. The pace was fantastic, I read it in two days. The ending seemed not believable but I could work with it in the grand scheme of this novel. But will I give it a 5 star rating or should I deter what I feel and rate it to a 4? I am not sure. I would still recommend the book to people, though I would mention to them what I thought.

Being a book reviewer is always interesting.

Update: I did talk to the author about this character and we had a nice talk about it.
