I have my rights back to my books: Time to get to work

I asked for my rights back for one of my series. It took me a while to get them which caused much frustration from the day I asked to the day I actually received the email showing me the wait was over. Along the way I learned a few lessons which were valuable for any future contracts I might sign with a publishing house. But now it is time to move on.

Fortunately two houses are interested in publishing the series. But with any work I have I start at the very top. Who knows I might get a bit from one of the really big houses, right? It doesn’t hurt to try. The only thing is that will take time and I need to plan it out carefully.

Publishing houses are a plenty. There are the really good ones, the decent ones and of course the sharks and wolves who just want what they can get from you. One truly has to be careful and do the research on any potential business that are interested in your works. It takes longer yes but it is so much worth it.

Now I am not saying my former publishers were of the later. They weren’t. I just had a new direction that I wanted to try with the books I had. But with the tall task of submitting one needs to be diligent and do the work needed to make sure we don’t place our hard work and our baby, the book, into the hands of those who are just trying to scam you.

It took so long to get our work in the best consideration it can be in why rush the process at the end just so you can say to yourself that you are published?

Where are the people who buy your books from?

It is always nice to see where in the world the people who purchase your writings live. For the last few years Japan has been one of the most interesting places that people were buying my books. It always makes me smile and ponder a few things. How did they hear of me, what am I doing right for them to know about my writings and then I go to does it matter? After all they are buying them in the first place.

If I knew what I was doing right I would focus on that a bit more. But every time I get word that they have placed an order we give a little WOOHOO at home.

Well that changed last week when a new contender made the list. Luxembourg. I had to look that up to see where it was on the map. That was really cool to get a new country to add to my list. As with Japan I was thrilled and yet wondered how that came about.

Luxembourg. Welcome to the family. I hope you enjoyed what you read and check out my other books. But a big hearty hello!

Residential Writing

Here in this state they have two residences where writers can gather with other writers and work on their projects. One such program there is a fee the other there is not. The one that has no fee you do have to bring everything with you. This could go from bedding, food, towels and everything you would need if you were home. But again it is free. There is no internet in the house but in one room which is the library which can hopefully help you to work on your writing without that distraction.

Well known authors of this state has gone through this place and have made repeated stops. The quietness, the away from social media and finally taking time to just concentrate on your work can be so instrumental to you as an author. Plus you can help others as they help you on your work. Another plus is forging friendships with new people in your field that can last a lifetime which is priceless.

Yes, I will be trying to get into the free one. I know the waiting list is probably long but the good part is the stay is just two weeks per year. You an break that up into two one weeks or all at one time so the turnover is pretty good. With life being hectic time away to work on one’s project could be a vacation of sorts.
