I asked for my rights back for one of my series. It took me a while to get them which caused much frustration from the day I asked to the day I actually received the email showing me the wait was over. Along the way I learned a few lessons which were valuable for any future contracts I might sign with a publishing house. But now it is time to move on.
Fortunately two houses are interested in publishing the series. But with any work I have I start at the very top. Who knows I might get a bit from one of the really big houses, right? It doesn’t hurt to try. The only thing is that will take time and I need to plan it out carefully.
Publishing houses are a plenty. There are the really good ones, the decent ones and of course the sharks and wolves who just want what they can get from you. One truly has to be careful and do the research on any potential business that are interested in your works. It takes longer yes but it is so much worth it.
Now I am not saying my former publishers were of the later. They weren’t. I just had a new direction that I wanted to try with the books I had. But with the tall task of submitting one needs to be diligent and do the work needed to make sure we don’t place our hard work and our baby, the book, into the hands of those who are just trying to scam you.
It took so long to get our work in the best consideration it can be in why rush the process at the end just so you can say to yourself that you are published?
