Today is the day “Squirrel Mafia” is being released. WOOHOO. I had so much fun working on this particular project. It is one of love, frustration and all that falls in between. People to this day still tell me that these rodents are cute and adorable. I call foul on that. They are evil little bastards whose soul job in this town is to piss me off. I have to say job well done on their part.
Here is the synopsis.
We tend to think of squirrels as cute furry creatures that scamper around playing while looking for nuts. Yet I’ve a different outlook on these rodents from Hades.
As an animal lover, one who’s owned by eight birds, I’ve had the opportunity to observe a group of squirrels around my home here in the suburbs for the past year. The experience I’ve gained gives a whole new meaning to the words ‘little darlings’.
I offer you a unique perspective of the furry friends entangled within our everyday lives. Their antics and shenanigans have earned them the name, the Squirrel Mafia. This book chronicles my ongoing battle with these pesky little critters.
The book can be purchased in print, color or black and white and as an ebook here: http://tinyurl.com/k5nnmjm
After I had to delay the release of Squirrel Mafia due to the pictures, I was up and running trying to find new pictures. The little buggers who were always around and under my feet simply were no longer around. It’s like they knew I needed new photos.
This past Sunday my husband and I went out with the intention of doing so at the site we took the originals. While the color version of the book is fine, the black and white copy needs some adjustments.
At first when we sat down on benches, in the hot as heck North Carolina weather, I had no luck. A few minutes passed that turned into 10 that soon turned into 20 minutes again with no luck. The little demons were purposely avoiding me.
Then I heard it. The sound of empty nut shells falling on the payment by the bench I was sitting on. Looking up I noticed the little guy above staring at me as he busily ate. I was so giddy I had found one I almost missed my shot. But he wasn’t going anywhere as he kept on eating the food that was around him. That taught me to instead of looking with my eyes that I needed to listen with my ears as I heard in other nearby spots the sound of shells hitting the payment and the tell-tale sound of the squeaking, for lack of a better word, of them communicating with each other.
It didn’t take long after that for me to end up with a selection of pictures that I hope will end up in the book so it can be released. I will sort through them, and send them off to my editor after which when she is done, will order a new proof to see if I was successful.
Cross fingers everyone. Hopefully soon I will be able to add this book to my list at http://tinyurl.com/meedtwe
Always order a proof of your book. Always. I just received the proof copy of Squirrel Mafia. The content, the front and back cover are awesome. The color version of the book is amazing but expensive hence why we created a black and white copy of the book. But in the black and white copy some of the pictures need to be fixed so we will be revisiting them.
So while the release was planned for August 12th, we are moving it a bit to get it done right. This probably involves going out into the wild to take more pictures of these little demons from hell.
I rather move my release date and have a product I can be proud off. Why would you not order a proof? I’m not sure but there are authors out there who feel this is not needed. I disagree. I will always get a proof of each book.
The good part of receiving my proof yesterday was the fact my in-laws were in town. One of the chapters is dedicated to my father in law’s mother. He said down and read it as he chuckled. They both love it. That made my day.
Soon I will be able to give them a copy, a decent copy, so they can read the entire book.
