It’s almost May already

It is almost May already. Where has the time gone? It seems every year goes faster than the year before. But why?

I asked my mom this question last year and this is what she said. “ When we are younger, we are to busy living our lives to think about time. We are on the go-go go and life seems to go on forever. When we are older we have slowed down as well as our bodies. We don’t have much time left on this earth in comparison to the young. So in essence time goes by faster for us.” Okay, I am paraphrasing what she said but this asbout sums it up.

I paused after she told me this. It made sense. For years I had pondered this question not giving much thought to asking anyone. It took my mom to break it down to where I could nod and realize this is what it was.The older may be older but we can learn so much from them if we just give them a chance to speak. Plus we need to listen, not just hear what they are saying but to really listen. A skill a lot of us don’t have.

Whether we want to hear the advice or not, we should at least pay attention. They are smarter than we might give them credit for. And there is always the side perk of making them feel good, a win win in my book any time of the day.

The things my mom has said to me I have tried to record. It may not always work for me or make sense but eventually a time will arise and I can say, “Ah, that’s right mom explained that to me.”

May I pay more attention to living instead of paying attention to the time.

Sports: Life would be boring without it

Well football is now done as far as games and playoffs goes. What we have left is hockey and basketball before in a few short weeks pitchers and catchers go to spring training to get ready for the long season of baseball.

I been an avid sports fan for as long as I could remember sitting on my twin bed looking at the 13 inch black and white TV that my mom had bought me one Christmas. It filled up the time when there was nothing to do, when I was left home alone and times when it was just too cold to go out. I am from Northern Maine.

Sports will lift you up and drop you like a hot potato, the price of rooting for any sport any team anywhere. It will bring bouts of anger, joy, tears, happiness and so much more.

Where would I be without watching my teams across the board would mean

– more free time

-more money since I would not be spending it on games, travel and any things I might buy to show who I root forbidden

-less people for a good portion of my friends are ones I knew growing up, went to college with and also with to games with

What I would be doing would be so completely different and the wife my husband knows would not be the one he knows now. He has put up with a lot of my ups and downs, my sitting in front of the TV, refusing to move until the game is done or excessively watching reports, draft day and so on concerning anything on the many sports I watch.

I can’t imagine being any different. Sports were my baby sitters when my sisters got older and did their own thing. Sports taught me to embrace my nerdiness with stats, math and science for it does embrace those disciplines.

Sports is awesome, even with the hits and joys, for without it life for me would be way duller.

IMG_4774One of my resources to write is prompts, whether that be writing or picture.. My current WIP “Lost Faith” is based on a one line writing prompt. From that I wrote 1600 plus words making it a short story. Seeing I could do more with it I extended it to a short novella. Feeling I had more to say on it I continued and now it stands at over 50k words as I am working to make it a trilogy.

My short story and first paranormal piece ever “The Door In the Tree” came from a picture prompt of a door in a tree. It has received some lovely reviews from those who have read it. This is a genre I would never have thought to write in if I had not seen this prompt. My first ever crime novel which is still a WIP came from a small one line writing prompt.

So I am very bias when it comes to prompts and how effective they can be for writers and for me especially. They just open up new worlds to stories I would never consider writing in the first place. By writing outside my comfort zone and outside the box I am learning new ways to express the creations in my head. I like that.

It makes writing more interesting for me as I research to learn the new concepts I am working on. That is a winner winner chicken dinner for me. I love to learn, I have watched so many documentaries on History Channel I started seeing repeats. In this way I can extend that thirst for knowledge through a writing or picture prompt.

So no matter what you use to get the writer in you going whether that is a writing or picture prompt, memories and experiences you have had or an over active imagination, good for you. If it brings the stories to light onto paper for others to read that is what matters.
