Writers Conference : My jam

This is the week that the writing conference will be upon me. I have checked my draft to the WIP that is required for one of the classes I am taking. As mentioned before I have avoided classes like this in the past that were run out of a conference.

I am not sure how many pages I should bring but will bring a good sample. These are my peers and it will be a learning experience for me.

This will be the first time I attend one of these without knowing someone off-hand that is going as well. This will be perfect for me.  For when you think about it we are all like-minded people who have the same goal. I’m really not alone.

The problem with conferences is most times I want to go to majority of the classes and that is just not possible. We have to make a decision on what works for us now, right now, with our writing career.  I chose “ Writing Speculative Fiction” which in part will help me learn on how to build worlds. That should be fun. My other class is “Stepping Back from Your Writing” which is about defamilarizing myself from my work so I can see it clearly and do a better revision for it.

That last class is the one where the members will read their draft they brought it for the others to help with critiquing. Joy. Serious, joy. LOL

They are feeding us breakfast from one of my favorite places to eat in the city, Bisquitville, which we eat  from anytime we are in this area.

This is my jam.

  1. Conferences are an interesting mix. Jamie went to an FWA one a few years back as a volunteer and she lucked out and worked in the ones that interested her.
I got to spend a couple days at home relaxing. Win-win? LOL
Good luck and have fun! 🙂
