Writing Trilogies

614cZIpFARL._SX311_BO1,204,203,200_

When I first began to write I wasn’t thinking of trilogies. I still had to finish my first book. But from that came my second in the series. I am currently editing and revising the third one. I’m not sure if there will be any more after that but have a couple of possible directions I can go.

But now that I am writing in a new genre, which is YA, my thinking is different. My first NaNoWriMo win was with the manuscript called “Lost Faith” which at first was a stand alone. But quickly my mind went to trilogy. Why so quickly? The movies now a days seem to come in trilogies for this genre. Not only that but go to any bookstore and in this section it is trilogy galore. I even read in a few places that is what publishers are looking for. Whether that is the trend now or not I’m not sure. But my mind went there and so now that is what “Lost Faith” has become.

But with my Jasper series I wrote each one individually. With my YA I came up with a crazy idea. Why write one by one by one? Why not write this humongous novel where I would just have to divide into three?

Does anyone do it like this or not ? Am I nuts to try to do this? Probably so. Will it all shatter and I just go back to one at a time could happen. But for now I am going for the gusto.

Author’s Showcase

Last Friday a local library had their annual author’s showcase. With it being free for the writers I sign up happily. This was my second time for this event. It was a great chance to hang out with writers, friends who are writers and readers.

The weather held up and we had a nice crowd come to the event. With having Jasper’s canvas picture on my table it drew a lot of people to me. The event was only two hours but it went b y quickly. It was nice to talk to the community about my books and how I came up with the idea for them.I made some sales, woohoo, and all in all it was a good night.

Getting out into the public is not easy and on some occasions it can be a bit nerve-wracking. But the more I try the easier it does become. What was really nice is how my name is getting out among the community. Which is extremely helpful not to mention free and good publicity is always good.

I did forgot to have someone take a picture of me and my table, doh. But the night was fun, my table mate was a friend of mine so we did chatter a bit. The event helped Friends of the Library which is one I do support so it was a win win on a few levels.

So writers, get on out when you can in your community. Readers support your writers. If nothing else support your local libraries. They do so much for us and all of it is free to the public.

My home town library in Maine

My home town has a small library. Thanks to a grant that was approved they were able to build a second room. It is nothing fancy but it is amazing for a number of reasons. First it is run by two sisters who happen to both be nuns. Another the history of the Acadians is there for us to look over. My family on both sides are such.

I have given a copy of each of my books to them and will continue to do so to do my part in helping them out. Walking into the library a few weeks ago I came across the stand that houses my novels, along with the feather of Jasper and his bio that I included as a package. The sisters had sent me a picture of it which thrilled me but to see it in person gave me some satisfaction that I was helping out.

Growing up the only library I had access to was the one at school and the times were limited for us to go explore. I love libraries, I am at mine so often that the staff thinks I work there or should. The many things they offer, all free, is diverse and finding something to do there is easy. I am thrilled that now my home town has one and that it is growing and run by a board of dedicated people.

Who knows what is in store for them and what I will find next time I am home. I am excited for them and the community for what is to come.
