Minions

Is there a movie out there that you could watch repeatedly? The jokes don’t get old? No matter if you know the next scene about to come but instead you are waiting for it so you can just laugh out loud? My latest love is “Despicable Me”. I can not even begin to count how many times I have seen this movie. The fact that it was In Demand on my cable was bad enough but now my son owns a copy. He had seen it so many times through me he is in love with it as I am.  It is good clean fun and no matter what part of the movie is playing, if I am walking by the couch will have a new buddy. I will be honest this movie was not watched when it first came out. But now that it has entered my life, last six months, it gets watched daily.

Now that might seem excessive to watch the same movie every single day. Well there’s a catch. Our birdie Jasper, the one pictured on this blog, has fallen in love with the yellow minions from the movie. My son and I both agree they make this film work. Jasper will slide down the rail, onto the couch and get comfortable in front of the tv so he can watch his movie. Please don’t walk in front of him. And whatever you do, DO NOT SIT DOWN IN FRONT OF HIM. Oh my gosh talk about a bird who will have a hissy fit.

This is a picture of him getting riled up when I walked in front of him while he was watching the movie. He ruffled his feathers to hurry me along.

This is when I was talking to him during the movie. He totally ignored me in hopes I would shut up so he could get back to the show.

Jasper absolutely loves this movie. In fact as I type up this blog he is situated at the corner of the couch watching “Despicable Me”. He laughs at the same spots we do and at spots we don’t. It is comical to find out what he thinks is funny or not.

We have corrupted our green buddy and he likes it. They are making a sequel that comes out next summer. Hopefully the people in charge do it justice. I suspect if they do a copy will make its way home for my family to enjoy for a long time.

Until then the spot on the couch will get a little more worn out from where Jasper sits to watch this film.

P.S.

Other shows he likes to watch are:

SpongeBob SquarePants

Scooby- Doo- But not the ones with Scrabby-Doo. My bird is smart.

Rocking Chair

My entire life has been surrounded by rocking chairs. Growing up we had two in the kitchen, two in the living room, two on the porch and quite a few in the shed that was connected to the house. Rocking was a way of life for our family and for the many generations before us.

When I went away to college in the South and came into contact with people they would look at me odd when I would say, “Man I miss my rocking chair.” I am not sure if it is a cultural aspect or not but it seems as the years go by, this thought is confirmed.

I have been through so many rocking chairs that my husband now refuses to buy me any more. He said I am hard on them which is so true. I rock fast and quickly to a beat in my head or thoughts that make me pulsate the chair at a rate that it was not meant to surpass. It is surprising that flight has not been taken over the last few years. Get me on a rocking chair on the porch is such a great feeling, especially if it is raining or there is a slight breeze. It propels you to a different state of mind and helps you forget any crap that might be occurring. It is like a good book that helps you to be free.

It has been a few years since I have had a rocking chair. Every time I would see one it would be a reminder to my childhood and memories that would always make me smile. It would also tell me of my promise to get myself another chair down the road when I had the time.

Going to breakfast yesterday my husband and I saw a couple of signs for yard sales and decided to stop at one of them. There in the front yard was a rocking chair. Without realizing it I had stopped walking and ended up blocking the pathway. Looking at it I asked the owner how much he was asking which was $20.00. Not having that on me I hoped that by the time the trip to the ATM and back had been done that the chair would still be there. My husband looked at me and forked over the money.

The instantaneous glee in my heart made it beat just a little faster. A rocking chair I had a rocking chair in my possession. Needless to say I have no room for one but room will be made somehow someway for my latest love. As I write this post it sits by me urging me to stop what I am doing and to go for a ride with it. That is a wonderful idea.

To people who have never felt the joy of rocking in a chair, give it a try. You have so little to lose and so much to gain.

Time to rock.

Sweet Iced Tea vs Unsweetened Iced Tea

In Northern Maine I’m use to sweet hot tea. It’s drunk year round. Not until I was in the deep South did sweet iced tea cross my lips. My first reaction was OH MY GOSH WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY ENTIRE LIFE? Well something like that anyway. My boyfriend, now husband, had brought me to a fast food place by the name of Hardee’s that served sweet iced tea. This amazing yet simple drink is like ambrosia to me. It is drunk all the time by my family.

One day however I heard someone order unsweetened iced tea in the booth behind us. It made me pause.  Could this also be an amazing drink just waiting for me to learn about? Soon I ordered the same thing. Taking one sip I immediately spit it back into the cup and looked around me to see if that had been noticed. What I had before me was brown water and that was it. There was no taste, nothing to hint to anyone that it was anything but water. So why is this ordered repeatedly just confused me to all limits of confusion. What am I missing? Well obviously the sugar and honey but what would possess anyone to order this drink? There is no taste as far as I am concern. This will be a question that will not be answered I suspect as I go on drinking glasses and glasses of sweet iced tea.

Everyone has different taste, style and opinions. But this is one I just honestly do not get.
