How many of you write page numbers on your MS? I am thinking a good portion of you. I am not one of those people. Why I really do not know. A few days ago I was carrying three MS in my hand each having over 100 pages to them. Can anyone guess where this is going? Yes I bumped into something and they all fell like paper dominoes to the floor. I did not curse nor did I cry. I just looked at the mess I had created on the floor.

Thinking I get some sympathy from someone anyone I looked at my birds. They were laughing as they cluck clucked at me loudly. This did not brighten my mood. It was my own fault as I had not labeled them like I should have. Sitting down I put like to like and went through the process of getting them in order.

At least I had the chapters titled somewhat. What I had written on the top of the title page was “Chapter 1” and so on for each following chapters. It was not much but at least it was something. It took me a small bit to get all three MS put back together like Humpty Dumpty though in my case I was able to do so.

Multitasking sometimes works for me and then on other occasions it does not. Trying to do too much at one time does not always get me where I am trying to go. Case in point 300 pages on my floor as they stared back at me mocking me in the way only paper can do. Lesson learned I will start numbering my sheets. For I don’t see me slowing down in trying to get more than one thing done at the same time. I should it would do my body good but until then will start off with numbering my pages. Another example of how I need to slow down.

Publishing Online:”Root Canal”

Last Friday I released my short story “Root Canal” online. It was a labor of love and stress. The entire time my poor editor got pestered with endless questions and then questions to her answers that she gave me. She does not get paid enough seriously.  What I hoped to gain from was four thing.

-Go through the process of getting a piece of my writing online and learning how to do so.

-Sell one copy to say I sold one copy to someone.

-Sell two copies so I can say I earned my first buck as an author.

-To further the process of getting my name out.

Anything else would be pure pluses in my mind. The end goal was not to sell a whole bunch, though that would be nice, but for this to be a learning experience for me. My good friend Tracy told me when she earned her first dollar she enlarged the book cover and framed it with her dollar. I thought that was a pretty awesome idea. But I am going to expand on that. I have printed out the first sale on Amazon which was my very first sale and also printed out my second sale on Smashwords. The two equals my first dollar. I have not worked out how it will look framed just yet. But I am definitely framing that puppy oh heck yeah.

I told my editor that I would feel a whole lot better on May 11th for that would be the day after the official release, I do. This is just a really good feeling. Granted it is a short story and a quick read but I am glad I put it out there. Some people will like it some won’t. But I accomplished what I sent out to do.  At the moment of writing this I have sold nine copies. To me that is all pure happy pluses and I thank every one who has bought this short story. To those I know and don’t know I hope you enjoy it.

Sharon C. Williams is a native of New England, raised in Northern Maine. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and son. She is also owned by a flock of eight birds.

Sharon has a B.S. degree in Chemistry, but is currently disabled, so writing keeps her busy. She tends to lose all track of time. The world could be coming to an end, and she would be oblivious to it. When writing, she envisions the scenes in her head, and tries to imagine the reality of what is written down on paper. Different options, scenes, and problems are noted on the side in case she can use them later.

Sharon tends to write by long hand as the flow works better for her this way. Her bookshelf consists of works written by Stephen King, Agatha Christie, Bentley Little, and James Patterson. The best advice she has ever received about writing was to write about what you know. Her first thought was, “Yeah right,” but it really is that easy. A writer just needs to know a little tidbit to turn it into a short story, and soon enough, there’s a book.

Sharon loves to read, sketch, take pictures, walk, exercise, go to the movies, and listen to music. She is a budding bird watcher, and knits on the side. She is a huge sports fan of baseball, basketball, hockey, and football.

Two of her short stories were published in the anthology, “Cassandra’s Roadhouse.” She will be releasing several short story anthologies during the upcoming months. Her children’s book, “Jasper, Amazon Parrot: A Rainforest Adventure,” has just been picked up by Fountain Blue Publishing, and should be released sometime this year.
