Television-The curse of the DVR

Back in the day you watched what was on tv and if you missed a show well you missed a show. Then came the vcr and our minds were blown away. The years were magical we were living in the new age. Then came the dvd and the ability to record on this new technology  blew vcrs out of the water(I still own a vcr). But the latest that has made me chained to my television set has been the digital video recorder or dvr. Shows I have always missed were now available.

How do I know I am addicted? I asked a friend what she watched. Upon her asking me in return I made a list.

Monday: House, Hawaii 5-0, Lying Game,

Tuesday: NCIS Los Angles, Ringer

Wednesday: The Middle, Suburgatory, Modern Family, American Horror Story, Law & Order UK, Ultimate Fighter, Twisted, Inside the NFL, Whitechapel

Thursday: Person Of Interest

Friday: A Gifted Man, Nikita, Supernatural,Grimm. NFL Kickoff

Saturday: Bedlam

Sunday: Once Upon a Time, The Walking Dead, Dexter, Homeland, IRT Deadliest Roads

If my football team is playing then that will be included as well as any other sport I follow.  Any show on Discovery ID is thrown in here. I am sure I missed a lot more. Also there are the shows that are in hiatus.

It is a blessing and a curse. I rarely miss a show. But on the other hand I record just about everything and anything I might have an interest in. My tastes are far and wide so one never knows what will end up on the machine.  Yes that is a lot of shows that are going on right now. I am a product of my environment , as we all are.  I have come a long way from the 3 channels that our television had in the 70’s. Two of the channels were in French. Cable tv, vcrs, and now the dvr has made a huge impact on what we see and interpret on that boxed screen. Yes I need to cut down a bit even when there are so many choices out there for me to explore.

Midpoint of NaNoWriMo 2011

It is the midway point of NaNoWriMo 2011. The adventure has had its ups and downs during my first attempt at this mash dash frenzy to 50K words. My goal has remained the same. I want the story that has been in my head for the past year to be placed down on paper. If I get a good portion of it written then I will consider myself a winner. If the word count is accomplished that is just icing on the cake

The two things that I have stuck to has been:

A/ Getting up at 5 am and writing for a straight hour. It is the best time of the day when my hands and joints are not hurting at full speed. The end of the day they are screaming bloody murder. Also life has a way of getting in the way and before we know it the day is already gone.

B/ A good NaNo buddy of mine named Ruth gave me a great tip. Before the month of November started, write down 30 plots I could write about. I would pick one each day to write on and stick to it until I got a word count I was happy with. That way I would not sit in front of the computer twiddling my thumbs.

At the moment my word count is 34,295 on day 15.  I am tired and sleep deprived and I honestly can’t wait for November to be done. I need to get back to my projects that had to be push to the side due to this adventure I have embarked on. Will I do this next year I do not know but if so I will be better prepared.

I have always looked up to people who have written full blown novels that had word counts that overshadow my small words. Yet here I am with the word count slightly over 34K and still climbing. I have amazed myself and yes I am pretty darn tooting proud at the same time. Another perk of this NaNoWriMo has been my ability to show myself I can do it like the others and that at the end of the day is the best reward of all.

This is Jasper’s version of being a content bird which means to him that he is being loved. I had just spent the last 10 minutes telling him how pretty he was.

This is Jasper’s version of angry birds when he feels he needs more attention. I hid behind the curtain to where he could not see me.
